Dr Zara Thompson PhD

Zara (she/her) is a Registered Music Therapist (RMT) and researcher based in Naarm/Melbourne.

With over nine years of clinical experience, Zara specialises in working with people living with dementia, adults with cognitive and intellectual/learning disabilities, and both family and professional caregivers.

As a clinician-researcher, Zara’s research interests relate to these clinical areas, as well as lived experience and arts-based research methodologies. In her research role, Zara is a post-doctoral research fellow at The University of Melbourne, where she is currently working on projects related to using music to support people living with dementia and their supporters.

Zara also has over 15 years experience leading community music programs in various settings, including with people seeking asylum and mental health and wellbeing settings. Zara currently facilitates the Rewire Musical Memories choir – an inclusive and therapeutic choir for people living with dementia and their care-partners.
